First Quarter Training
will focus on Pre-incident planning, resource identification and
size-up considerations and the 15 absolutes of swiftwater
rescue. Students will utilize internet resources to identify
local, state, and federal resources available to mitigate and
assist in flooding operations. Student are encouraged to
bring laptops, mapping software, compass and or GPS units.
Students will begin developing a pre-plan for future swiftwater
incidents.
Second Quarter Training
will re-visit self-survival skills, hydrology studies, site
control actions, swiftwater incident management, search events,
definitions and night operational considerations. An
introduction to rafting and boat operations will consist of a
river trip or trip to the U.S. National Whitewater Center.
Third Quarter Training
will identify various types of Personal Protective Apparel,
equipment, communications and low risks rescue options. Various
rope rigging techniques will be constructed using a variety of
scenario-based applications.
Fourth Quarter Training
will focus upon low, medium and high angle rescue techniques,
patient packaging, and vehicle rescues in swiftwater situations.
Advanced swiftwater rescue techniques, helo operations, and
deployment considerations will be addressed, as well.
