Rescue 3 International Awareness Courses

Basic Water First Responder
This 8-10 hour course is designed for
response teams who work around lakes, ponds, or other non-flowing water. The
class consists of 4 hours of classroom instruction and 4 hours of in-water
practice. During the water portion students learn such things as:

basic rescue
-
self-rescue
-
shore-based aquatic rescue using generally
accepted"reach,
throw" techniques
-
in-water self-rescue and safety techniques
-
the application of water rescue techniques using
commonly
available fire service equipment
-
basic water-related medical emergencies, and how to deal
with them, including near-drowning, hypothermia, and cervical spine injuries
-
basic boat-based rescue concerns and techniques
This one-day course will
assist your organization in meeting the NFPA 1670 standard for Awareness
level training. This class is designed for any person who, in the course of
their duties, may be first on-scene for a water or rope rescue incident.
This seminar introduces personnel to the problems associated with water and
rope rescue, as well as procedures to follow when encountered with flash
floods, large-scale disasters and seasonal flooding. Because this is a
theory class, the Awareness level responder is not considered a rescuer.

Cost:
Due to the sponsorship of local community colleges, most of our Rescue 3 Int.
courses are offered at a reduced rate. The shared costs between the community
college and the student are 25% lower than the Rescue 3 Corporate rate.

Water and Rope
Rescue
This 8 hour classroom seminar introduces
personnel to the problems associated with water & rope rescue as well as the
procedures to follow in flash flood, large-scale disaster, and seasonal flooding
situations. The course is designed to develop knowledge in the areas of:
-
scene assessment & incident size up (of both existing &
potential conditions)
-
resource ordering
-
activation procedures for rescue response
-
site control and scene management
-
hazard recognition & mitigation procedures
In order to accomplish the responsibilities of the
awareness level responder, the course also provides students with a
conceptual understanding of the principles, applications, and hazards
associated with advanced water rescue techniques.
This course addresses "flat" water is designed for agencies who have no immediate need for a
specialized water rescue class, but wish to have personnel certified in
basic water rescue training in order to meet local requirements or comply
with OSHA, NFPA, or NIMS guidelines. In order to increase personnel safety and
decrease the likelihood of rescuers turning into victims, this course
initially focuses on appropriate personal protective equipment and
drown-proofing of rescuers. Other course objectives include hazard
recognition, site management, shore-based and wading rescue techniques,
throw line skills, simple boat-based rescue techniques, and higher risk
tethered swimming techniques.
This
eight-hour course includes four hours of classroom instruction
followed by four hours of in-water skills practice. The water portion of the
course may be held in an Olympic-sized pool, a lake, or a slow-moving river.
This is an appropriate class for any organization who works, or may work,
around lakes, ponds or other non-flowing water. This course meets the
general requirements laid out in the NFPA 1670 standard for Awareness
level for water rescue. However, this course goes beyond the scope of this
standard and offers in-water self-rescue techniques and basic rescue skills.
It is up to the Agency Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) to decide whether personnel
trained to this level may perform these skills during a water incident.
This course covers flat water only. For groups with any combination of
flat and moving water, Rescue 3 highly recommends Operations: Swiftwater
First Responder as a more appropriate alternative.
Prerequisites:
- At least 18 years of age
- Adequate heath insurance coverage
- Basic swimming ability
- Proper personal protective equipment
- Willingness to participate in hands-on activities
Equipment Requirements:
- Full wetsuit or drysuit for thermal and abrasion protection
- Lightweight water or climbing helmet
- Lifejacket/PFD with USCG Type III or V rating
- Water booties or tennis shoes
- Gloves and fins (optional)
