We are We are pleased to announce the offering of the Rescue 3 International Swiftwater Rescue Advanced (SRT-A) course to any currently certified SRT Unit I graduates. The course is delivered through the cooperative efforts of the training staff from Rescue North Carolina, the Dillsboro River Company, local community colleges, and Duke Energy, and several assistants from surrounding fire & rescue agencies.

Class Info
This class is the third of three classes needed for personnel desiring to meet requirements of the NFPA 1670 Standard and the NFPA 1006 Standard at the Technician level for water rescue.
The SRT Advanced course is a physically challenging class developed for strong rescue swimmers who will be able to proficiently swim and raft class II & III currents. Students with extensive health concerns are discouraged from attending this course.

The class may be delivered in two separate locations. The lecture will be held at Haywood Community College in Clyde, NC while the river portion will be taught along the Nantahala & Tuckasegee Rivers throughout the Great Smokies.

This course is an objective driven course, class times will be will promptly adhered and will dismiss when all objectives for each training date have been completed.

Attendance to all class sessions is required in order to receive full certification.

This course will be considered continuing education for Fire & Rescue certification.

National Fire Protection Association (N.F.P.A.) 1006 Standard for Rescue Technician Professional Qualifications:
The courses that comprise this curriculum to meet NFPA compliance are Swiftwater Rescue Technician Unit 1 (SRT1), Technical Rope Rescue: Technician Level (TRR: TL) and Swiftwater Rescue Technician Advanced (SRTA). These courses are designed with strong adherence and in direct relation to the N.F.P.A. standards associated with swiftwater and flood rescue.
Graduates of this set of courses will have received training in the skills essential to meeting the standards for N.F.P.A. 1006 Standard for Rescue Technician Professional Qualifications. Further, they will have the knowledge needed to assist their agencies in complying with the water and rope rescue sections of N.F.P.A. 1670 Standard on Operations & Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents (2004 version).
For Rescue 3 International to verify that these standards have been adhered to, students must take both the SRT1 and the SRTA courses through Rescue 3. However, for the rope training your personnel may either take Rescue 3’s Technical Rope Rescue: Technician Level or have rope training which meets the technician level for the 1670 and 1006 Standards from another source.
If you feel that your employee(s) has met this standard by in-house training through your department, please fill out the attached "Rope Skills Checklist" and submit it , along with, their registration to the instructor whose course your people are planning to take. Also, if your personnel have had training through a state agency or other recognized training organization which meets the NFPA Standards for rope, send a copy of their certificates to the instructor. Regardless of the outside training involved, it should be done prior to taking the Swiftwater Rescue Technician Advanced (SRTA) course.

Due to the sponsorship of local NC Community Colleges, our Rescue 3 Int. courses are offered at a reduced rate. The shared costs between the community college and the student are significantly lower than the Rescue 3 corporate rate.

Training locations may vary so students will need to provide their own transportation.

Our SRT Advanced courses are very fluid with respect to the training site locations. Because the courses are taught in the Bryson City, Dillsboro regions, as well as, the Nantahala and the Tuckasegee Rivers, students should consider lodging in the Cherokee tribal Reservation as this is the half-way point between training sites such as Cherokee or Bryson City.

Meals:
Meals, snacks, and travel are at the expense of each student. There will be breaks for meals throughout the course. Please bring a hydration system for river trips. A dry bag can be used to keep valuables dry.
